Welcome to Independence High School where we are affectionately known as the “Big I”. We proudly serve the Mint Hill community and surrounding area with more than 2000 students. Our campus includes a football stadium, baseball stadium, tennis courts, softball field, construction and automotive shops, and an industry-standard kitchen.

The Big I was founded in 1967 with the mission statement of building relationships with our students and the community while maintaining high expectations and rigorous instruction. We have continued that tradition. We work hard to ensure all our students meet their goals of college, career, or military. Each student is important and we are here to educate and provide them with the skills they need to succeed, here and beyond high school.

I’m excited to be back at Independence, where I served as Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal of Instruction from 2012 – 2017. Since then, I have been Principal at Francis Bradley Middle School in Huntersville. Coming back to the Big I is like coming home and I will work to provide a positive and valuable educational experience for every student.
