Transitioning to Kindergarten

Every spring, CMS elementary schools plan events to help transition children who will attend kindergarten next year. Smooth transitions to school make a difference to student outcomes.

Many schools are in the process of scheduling annual Beginners’ Day Events for rising kindergartners. The opportunity for families to see schools “in action” and to visit classrooms is vitally important to building the home/school connection. In order to provide opportunities for all families to participate, please schedule at least one of your two events in the evening for visits and information sessions.

CMS will publish the dates and times of each school’s events. At each event, CMS will provide a kindergarten booklet and flyer for each family, and schools will present more school-based information around the first week of kindergarten's daily schedule, and preparing for kindergarten.
