Advanced Studies
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) Advanced Studies department is dedicated to identifying, nurturing, and challenging the academic potential of all students, particularly those identified as academically or intellectually gifted. They accomplish this by overseeing a comprehensive range of programs and services designed to provide rigorous, differentiated instruction and prepare students for success in higher education and beyond. CMS Advanced Studies supports instructional programming throughout our district to challenge students and maximize their potential.
In essence, Advanced Studies strives to cultivate intellectual curiosity, creativity, and high achievement, ensuring that every CMS student has the opportunity to reach their full academic potential.

Key Areas of Focus

Gifted Identification and Services (AIG - Academically or Intellectually Gifted): They manage the identification process for gifted students across various categories (Academically Intellectually Gifted, Intellectually Gifted, Academically Gifted in Reading, Academically Gifted in Math) and provide specialized support, including differentiated curriculum, enrichment opportunities, and strategies for critical thinking and problem-solving.
