Our Approach to High School Science We believe science education should inspire curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. Our high school science curriculum emphasizes inquiry-based learning, collaborative problem-solving, and effective communication. Students are encouraged to explore science as a dynamic process of making sense of the world—both individually and as part of a team.
Through the analysis of patterns and relationships, students develop essential skills for tackling complex problems. They also engage with current scientific research and data, gaining opportunities to evaluate real-world findings and investigate their own age-appropriate questions. Our goal is to cultivate scientifically literate learners who are prepared to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and contribute thoughtfully to the world around them.
The CMS Science Units were collaboratively developed by high school science teachers across the district to ensure students receive high-quality, standards-aligned instruction. In addition to teacher-created content, the district invested in research-based curriculum resources. These materials were thoughtfully adapted by educators to align with the latest state standards, ensuring relevance, rigor, and consistency across classrooms.
