Extensions

Welcome to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School Extensions Program! Our program is designed to meet the unique learning needs of students who follow the Extended Content Standards (ECS). We provide a nurturing, inclusive, and academically rigorous environment where every student is supported in reaching their fullest potential-academically, socially, and functionally!

What are the Extended Content Standards?

The Extended Content Standards are adapted versions of the general education standards designed for students with significant cognitive disabilities. They provide access to grade-level content at a level appropriate to each learner's abilities.

Areas of Instruction:

  • Reading/ELA
  • Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Science & Social Studies
  • Adaptive/Life Skills
  • Social-Emotional Learning
  • Transition & Community Readiness

We use Everyway as our primary instructional tool. Everyway is a standards-aligned curriculum designed specifically for students with special learning needs. This tool includes:

  • Monthly thematic units
  • Leveled lessons with visual supports
  • Hands-on activities and interactive tasks
  • SymbolStix picture symbols
  • Built-in progress monitoring
