Three Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools students are in the first group of winners from the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship Program, announced April 22 by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They are among approximately 700 high school seniors who have won corporate-sponsored awards financed by corporations, foundations and endowments. The CMS winners are:
-
Erika Holden, Providence High | National Merit LPL Financial Scholarship
-
Maryn Medina, Ardrey Kell High | National Merit Siemens Scholarship
-
Prathyek Poojary, North Mecklenburg High | National Merit Eaton Scholarship
Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the competition and met the criteria of their scholarship sponsors. Most awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $1,000 to $10,000 per year. Some provide a single payment between $2,500 and $10,000. Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.
