North Carolina Superintendent Maurice “Mo” Green visited Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools on Oct. 20 and spent the day visiting with students, staff, district partners and community members.
Part of his regional tour across North Carolina, Green’s visit was an opportunity to showcase academic excellence in CMS as well as hear more about the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education’s 2025-30 strategic plan, Achieving Educational Excellence.
Green started at the fall Strategic Partnerships Quarterly Meeting and Luncheon at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church before heading over to Northwest School of the Arts and West Charlotte High School. In addition to touring both campuses, Green had meaningful conversations with CMS bus drivers and students from Northwest, West Charlotte and GenerationNation. Students also had an opportunity to showcase their talents through music, dance and athletics.
Green’s visit concluded at West Charlotte where he held a public forum on the strategic plan highlighting its three goals and eight Pillars of Excellence.
“This is not just Mo Green’s plan. This is not just the State Board of Education’s plan. This is North Carolina’s plan,” said Green. “And in order for this plan to be successful, we’re going to have to have champions of public education.”
“We know that we cannot do this work alone, but it’s through partnerships, innovation and a relentless focus on excellence that we are creating a system where every child can and will thrive,” said CMS Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill. “Because in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, we know that when students are inspired, informed and empowered, the possibilities are truly endless.”
