Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Officer Michelle Archer was recognized at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting on June 23. The meeting was her last board meeting before a well-deserved retirement. 

A U.S. Army veteran, Archer served as the school resource officer at Jay M. Robinson Middle School and has been a reassuring, constant presence at board meetings and hearings. While she has spent the last six years with the CMS Police Department, her service to our schools and students spans decades. 

Archer is a retired sergeant with the Matthews Police Department, where she made history as the first Black woman hired as a sworn police officer for the town of Matthews. 
 
Throughout her career, she has dedicated herself to school safety, serving at local elementary schools throughout Matthews and David W. Butler High School. She also has been an active board member for the North Carolina Association of School Resource Officers. 

CMS thanks Archer for her service, leadership and for keeping our schools safe. She has been a phenomenal role model, building a culture of respect and support for the students and community.
