In compliance with Office for Civil Rights (OCR) directives, CMS has developed age-appropriate lessons for all K-12 students on the following mandated topics:
- Sexual and gender-based harassment
- Consequences of sexual and gender-based harassment
- Steps to take if a student is being harassed based on sex / gender
- Encouragement to report such harassment
- Safe strategies for bystander intervention
All students must receive instruction on the above topics, unless a parent/guardian completes an opt-out form, with documentation provided to OCR via retention of opt-out forms at the school level.
- This will take place during homeroom in the first 8 days of school from August 28 - September 7, 2023.
- If your student opts out of Title IX age-appropriate instruction, they will be allowed to sit in the media center during the allotted homeroom time.
- Parent Opt out Letters - please sign and have your student give to the homeroom teacher August 28 - September 7, 2023. Please click the following links for Title IX Opt-Out Letters (Spanish / English)
- Parents may review lessons at this link.
