2024 Final Exam Exemption for Semester 1 Exams – Myers Park High School Final Exam Exemptions for Thursday, January 18 thru Wednesday, January 24, 2024CMS Exam Exemption GuidelinesStudents who meet the criteria below MAY BE exempt from taking a final exam in a course that does not require participation in a state-required End of Course assessment:
  • Students with a grade of an ‘A’ (90%) or above and no more than 3 absences.
  • Students with a grade of a ‘B’ (80%) or above with no more than 1 absence.
Students meeting the above criteria will have the option to take the final exam to improve their grade rather than the exemption.  If a student chooses to take the exam, CMS grading practices are followed, and the exam counts for 20% of the student’s final grade. On Tuesday, January 16, and Wednesday, January 17, students who meet the criteria can apply for a final exam exemption using the Google form link.  When completing the link, students MUST include their F1 average for the course and total number of absences for the course.  When applying for more than one exam exemption, then the student must complete the Google form for each course.  Once completed, teachers will verify if students are eligible for an exam exemption and will mark the student “exempt” in PowerSchool for the final exam.  Students are REQUIRED to apply for the exam exemption on Tuesday, January 16, or Wednesday, January 17.  Students who choose to take their exams are NOT held harmless and the exam score will count as 20% of their final exam grade. If a student is absent from class on Tuesday, January 16, or Wednesday, January 17, and the absence causes the student to no longer meet the requirements of an exam exemption, they WILL BE REQUIRED to take the exam. Please NOTE that all absences, excused and unexcused, count towards the total absences accrued in a course.  The ONLY exception is 1Q (School Sponsored Activity).Any absence accrued during exam days will not impact exam exemptions.
