The Beginning Teacher Support Program (BTSP) is a required, three-year induction program for Beginning Teachers (BTs). The goals of the BTSP, as described by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), are to help new teachers improve skills and build confidence to become successful educators; and to ensure beginning teachers meet the state’s professional teaching standards, impact the learning of all students in distinguished ways, and choose to remain in the profession (TCED-016).

Each district and charter, in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders, creates its own BTSP Plan to be approved by the local board of education. BTSP plans are informed by the NCDPI BTSP Handbook. Each BTSP is monitored every five years by the state of North Carolina.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will be monitored next in the 2022-2023 school year using BT compliance data from the 2026-2027 school year.

In order to ensure that each school’s data is representative of accomplished and distinguished range of the NCDPI monitoring tool, we have created a BTSP Playbook. We invite you to utilize this playbook to further explore the NCDPI and district expectations for Beginning Teacher Support Programming.
