The role of school social workers in attendance
School social workers are the first line for school attendance and provide support and resources for the students and families. They act as advocates to get students and families what they need, whether it's creating a safe space within the school, providing resources for food or housing insecurities, or resolving transportation issues. Whatever the barriers families may face, their school social workers are a good resource for solving problems and supporting the students.
In this video, we talk with school social workers at the elementary, middle, and high school levels about the importance of attendance from their individual perspectives. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district and your child's school are here to provide you and your child support if needed!
