Posted on: 10/24/24

More than 200 Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools high school students attended Insight Global’s Be the Light Tour event Friday, Oct. 18, in Charlotte. The event is in its second year, and offers personalized, one-on-one career counseling for those interested in better preparing for future careers.

Students from Ballantyne Ridge, Julius L. Chambers, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Academy,  East Mecklenburg, Harding University, North Mecklenburg, Northwest School of the Arts, Providence, West Charlotte and West Mecklenburg high schools participated in workshops, networked and received professional headshots and free haircuts, as well as met with more than 50 local employers and non-profit organizations.

Eric Summerour, Career and Technical Education (CTE) career development coordinator, said CTE’s mission is to equip students with the knowledge, skills and experiences necessary to succeed in today’s workforce. Partnering with companies like Insight Global allows learning to happen beyond the classroom and exposes students to industry professionals and hands-on learning experiences.

“These events not only provide invaluable insight into the various career options available, but also help students build important professional networks that can open doors for future internships and employment,” said Summerour. “My team actively recruits students for these events because I believe it is crucial for them to see what’s possible beyond high school. By participating, students can explore different career fields, develop a clearer sense of their own career aspirations and gain confidence in pursuing their goals. These partnerships enrich our CTE programs and play a key role in ensuring students graduate with the skills and connections they need to thrive in their chosen career pathways and credentials.”
