College Mentors for Kids: Bridging the Gap
Posted 1/7/2025
College Mentors for Kids is a national program connecting college students with elementary school children around the country. The program focuses on fostering positive relationships and providing enriching experiences for young learners.
At the University of North Carolina - Charlotte (UNCC), college students participate in the local chapter of this program that is currently partnered with Druid Hills Academy and Hornets Nest Elementary School. The young student mentees in the program are picked up at their school and shuttled to the UNCC campus to take part in mentorship and group activities and social-emotional growth opportunities in a higher education environment.
Mentors prioritize building genuine connections with their mentees, fostering a sense of belonging and creating a family atmosphere.
This partnership underscores the mutual benefits of the mentoring experience. College students gain valuable leadership and interpersonal skills while making a positive impact on the lives of young children.
