‘Carpool Takeover’ at Merry Oaks International Academy

Carolina Panthers’ Sir Purr, Top Cats and staff visited Merry Oaks International Academy on Feb. 5 for a “Carpool Takeover.” Students were greeted first thing in the morning with cheers, high fives and music to give them that extra boost of encouragement for the second half of the school year.
Sir Purr and Riley Fields, director of Community Relations for the Carolina Panthers, also hopped on the morning announcements before the big parade inside the school. Fields shared three tips — “Read 20, Play 60 and Feel 100” — and encouraged students to read for at least 20 minutes a day, play or move around for 60 minutes a day and to feel their best.
“Having (the Panthers) come mid-year shows students that we can do this and we’re on the right track,” said Principal Danah Telfaire. “It’s motivational for the students and also the staff. It inspired them, encouraged them and I think it gave them that extra boost of energy to finish strong!”
