Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Strategic Partnerships held its Quarterly Partner Meeting on Feb. 13 at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.

Approximately 150 partners gathered and heard directly from district leadership about the current state of the district, and how their partnership and collaboration could have a beneficial impact on students and staff.

“It feels great to be part of a community that’s engaged and that’sPartners walk to the front of a room to place sticky notes on paper taped to a window. really invested in our future in terms of our students and staff here in CMS,” said Damon Willis, director of Strategic Partnerships.

Partners had the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions to give input on several topics including teacher appreciation, funders, newcomer support services, tutoring, and mentorships and student engagement. Munro Richardson, executive director of Read Charlotte, shared how the collective wisdom from each partner organization will be crucial in moving forward.

“This is our moment to come together as a community and work together with the district,” Richardson said to the group. “This is a commitment to continuous improvement, to continue to be around the table, have top conversations and to stay focused on the goal ahead.”

Several partner organization representatives sit in a classroom and share feedback on tutoring in the district.Willis said the partners will come together again in May for the Partnership Summit to hear more about the strategies developed based on the feedback gathered during the breakout sessions.

“We were really focused on doing more listening than talking to partners, and what we’ve found is that they want to work with us, and they want to collaborate,” said Willis. “Now the next steps are really developing those strategies to support our students more efficiently for the next school year.”
