The Ally Financial team once again took their Financial Education Program to Lawrence Orr Elementary School on April 23. First and second grade students were treated to celebrity readers, including NASCAR driver #48 Alex Bowman and members of his pit crew, Charlotte FC midfielder Brandon Cambridge and Ally Financial CEO Michael Rhodes.

The guests read from “Emma and the Cosmo Phone,” the second book in Ally Financial’s Adventures with Money program, which teaches kids to build good money habits with books and games that make learning fun. Student teams also competed in a game about the fundamentals of financial responsibility and good money habits.

“We do this in April to highlight Financial Literacy Month,” said Jessica Stroupe, manager of sports and entertainment marketing at Ally. “We started this about six or seven years ago to show kids that learning about money doesn’t have to be scary. It can be cool and fun.”

These types of school events are important, as they help to broaden the students’ horizons, said Lawrence Orr Principal Melanee Friday.

“It lets them see that there’s so much more out there beyond elementary school,” she said. “Our kids are very diverse, they are brilliant, and to be able to offer them glimpses of things other than what they see every day is really exciting.”
