Every day, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools staff show up for the community. They teach, feed, counsel, drive, support, and care for nearly 140,000 students across the county. Their work shapes futures and strengthens neighborhoods. And yet, the people we rely on to hold up our schools often struggle to access the care and support they need for their own wellbeing.

Thrive Together is a collaboration between Novant Health and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools designed to change that reality. The partnership brings health access, preventative support, and personalized care directly to CMS employees, lowering barriers and re-centering wellness as a foundation for thriving schools.

The initiative provides CMS staff with: 

• Convenient access to primary and preventive care
• Support for mental and emotional health needs
• Mobile and on-site care options that meet people where they are
• Streamlined referrals into specialty services when needed
• Wellness coaching, resources, and ongoing care navigation

The approach is simple: make it easier for school staff to get the care they need, when they need it. When we remove friction, we remove stress. When we support the adults in the building, everyone in the building benefits.

Studies show — and we know through lived experience — that healthy, supported educators are more likely to remain in the profession, build strong relationships with students, and show up as their full selves. This program is not only about healthcare access. It is also an investment in the long-term success of our schools. When school staff thrive, classrooms become more stable, students feel more supported, and the entire community feels the ripple effects.

Thrive Together represents a shared belief: caring for those who care for our children is one of the most powerful investments we can make in Charlotte’s future. In the months ahead, the partnership will expand access points, deepen support services, and continue listening directly to school employees to shape what comes next.
