District Benchmark Assessment

District Benchmark Assessment

Balanced Assessment System

CMS employs a Balanced Assessment System. This encompasses a variety of assessments that yield different types of data. These data serve different purposes and are used to drive both long-term and short-term instruction. Each type of assessment found within the Balanced Assessment System is given at different intervals throughout the year, with some being multiple times per year and others being given only once. Some of the assessments found within the Balanced Assessment System may be reflected in a student's report card grade while others are only used for instructional planning purposes.

The highlighted courses require a midterm, which will provide a third formative assessment.

Based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and designed using the End-of-Grade and End-of-Course Assessment blueprints, the Mastery View Predictive Assessments are rigorous benchmarks that measure students’ academic progress and can be triangulated with other data points to predict summative outcomes. MVPAs are REQUIRED to be administered multiple times per year. The frequency of assessments, grade levels, and subject areas are shown in the graphic.

Individual Student Report

Individual Student Reports are provided to families by your student's school roughly 2 weeks after the window closes for the entire school district. This gives a snapshot of how a student performed on the Mastery View Predictive Assessments (Benchmark Assessment). These assessments serve as benchmarks for all courses that participate in End-of-Grade or End-of-Course state assessments. The district uses these assessments to progress monitor student performance with grade level content and standards.
