Title IX
Title IX was created to stop, remedy and prevent sexual harassment and discrimination in educational programs and activities that
receive federal financial assistance across the United States.
Title IX is a U.S. federal law that prohibits sex-based discrimination. This means that no one can be excluded from or denied the benefits of a school program based on their sex, including discrimination, harassment, and sexual violence. Title IX applies to all operations of a school that received federal funding, including academics,
extra-curricular activities and athletics.
The federal law says "No person in the United States, shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance".

CMS Employee Board Policies:
CMS holds all employees to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. In alignment with Title IX and related federal and state laws, the Board of Education has established policies that prohibit discrimination, harassment and other misconduct. Harassment is conduct that has the purpose or effect of substantially interfering with a student's educational opportunity or an employee’s work activity; creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive school environment; or otherwise affects a student's educational opportunities or an employee’s ability to participate in work activities. These policies provide clear expectations for employee behavior, outline procedures for addressing violations, and ensure that all complaints are reviewed promptly, fairly, and in accordance with due process. By adhering to these policies, CMS reinforces its commitment to maintaining a safe, respectful, and equitable environment for students, staff and the entire school community.
Specifically, the following Board Policies address allegations of sexual harassment by CMS staff towards a CMS student and staff towards staff:
P-DWV Domestic and Workplace Violence
P-HASM Harassment of Students by Employees
P-HSME Harassment of Employees
P-SOCM Social Media
P-STND Standards of Conduct
