CMS Community Engagement Summary

In January 2025, CMS launched a districtwide engagement effort to help shape our vision for Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

More than 10,000 families, educators, students, and community members contributed through surveys and focus groups. This foundational input continues to guide our work as we build an inclusive, responsible, and student-centered approach to AI in CMS.

Philosophy

At Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, foundational AI education comes before access to AI tools — and that’s by design.

That’s the core of the district’s “Literacy First” philosophy — a community-driven commitment to building AI literacy for both staff and students.
