A LETTER FROM PRINCIPAL ARMBRUSTER
Welcome to South Charlotte Middle School! I am so excited to begin the year with you. One of the many reasons South Charlotte Middle School is such a special place is that we believe in supporting and raising good human beings that become productive citizens of the world. Albert Einstein stated it best when he said, “Education is not the learning of facts, but training the mind to think.” We aim to achieve this objective through our philosophical beliefs and instructional practices embedded in our high expectations, character development, and community partnerships.
South Charlotte Middle has high standards and expectations for teaching and learning. We utilize best practices to teach challenging and rigorous content in all learning environments. South Charlotte is recognized as an NC Schools to Watch Redesignation as we continue to strive for a middle school experience that is Academically Excellent, Developmentally Responsive, Socially Equitable, and Organizationally Structured.
The sense of responsibility for supporting the character development of the whole child is a priority. We develop in one another an awareness of personal and civic responsibility. Our students of today are the leaders of tomorrow’s world, in which evolving competency with digital contexts will be vital to their success. So we expect all Shockers to:
Be KIND. SPEAK out. Respect EVERYONE. And Respond Appropriately.
That’s why our motto is Do the Right Thing all day, everyday.
Our conviction in the value of learning beyond our four walls, which we sustain and which sustains us. The arts and sciences are school wide emphases. South Charlotte Middle School understands the significance of the arts and athletics enrichment. We highly value the learning that comes through diverse experiences.
These beliefs form the foundation of what we think, what we say, what we do, and who we are here at South Charlotte Middle School.
Your participation is a crucial part of the development of our SCMS family. Help us instill the foundation for our future. Come in to eat lunch, volunteer for field trips, work with students, join us for school events, and celebrate our children’s achievements. As we all learn and grow, we will continue to help our students discover their personal passions.
In partnership,
Jane Armbruster
