    Hough Attendance FAQ’s

What is the CMS attendance policy?

High school students absent from eleven class periods will receive a grade of F for that particular course. This rule applies to all absences, whether excused or unexcused.

What is the difference between an excused and an unexcused absence?

Absences for reasons listed below are considered excused and are to be coded as an excused absence from school:

Illness or injury of the student, Death in the immediate family, Quarantine, Medical/Dental appointment, Religious observances, Educational opportunity, Local school board policy,  Child care (for student’s child), Absence related to deployment activities, Court or administrative proceeding

Absences for reasons listed below and for any other absences not listed above are unexcused and are to be coded as an unexcused absence from school:

Bad weather, Missing the bus, Car trouble, Oversleeping, Lack of heat, water or electricity, Shopping, Baby sitting, Lack of clothing or shoes

Will I be notified when I have reached my 10 days?

Yes, attendance letters will be sent out once your student has reached 3 days, again at 6 days, and finally on the 10th day.

What should I submit if I am absent from school?

It is the responsibility of parents to notify the school when their child is absent from school and to inform the principal or other designated staff person of the reason for the absence.

Do my absences start over each quarter?

No, absences start over for semester classes at the beginning of the semester. Absences continue to accumulate for A/B classes throughout the year.

    What is recovery?

Once a student has missed more than 10 days in a class, they may begin making up their seat time.  Each class over 10 requires 45 minutes of recovery. Students are expected to do work while doing recovery. Teachers may provide students alternate assignments instead of doing seat time. Each department has their own recovery plan.

    When can I start recovery?

Recovery starts when a student has reached the 11th absence.  Teachers will provide students with a recovery notification letter and recovery log.  Forms are also available on our website.  Teachers must sign the Recovery Log sheet when a student makes up time with them. Students are not to do recovery with other teachers.
