• LeGette Blythe Elementary School, affectionally known simply as Blythe, opened in August of 1998. It was named for William LeGette Blythe, a native of Huntersville. He was an author and journalist who lived and chronicled Mecklenburg history.

After the opening of school in 1998, the students voted on the school mascot. Each classroom voted on the mascot they wanted for the school. The students chose the Cardinal. You can see the cardinal image on our walls, doors, shirts, hats, and pencils.

During the 1999-2000 school year the students decided on a name for our school mascot. Each student had the opportunity to make suggestions to the PTA and a finalized list was made from which the students voted for their favorite name. At Blythe’s 1st Right Moves Rally of 1999 the principal, Mrs. Carolyn Hubbard, announced our mascot’s name - “Chipper”.

Our vision is to empower all students to achieve high academic standards.  Blythe students will realize the vitality in themselves, becoming confident, inquisitive, innovative citizens who respect all cultures of our world.

Through Programs of Inquiry and along with the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile, our mission is to ensure that each child has unique opportunities to be innovative problem solvers and to work cooperatively with mutual respect and appreciation for a more peaceful world.

    IB Mission Statement

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the organization works with schools, governments, and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

    Testimonies

"Blythe has positively impacted my children in so many ways that it is hard to express in such a short paragraph. Their teachers have given all they had to our children, which made them better students than they already were. They brought my children to their best. The staff at Blythe is not just people at a school but they are a part of our family because we feel their love for our children. The positive impact that my children received will be taken with them well past their school years. Thank you for such a great year."

“I have four children in different grades that attend Blythe. I am always impressed by the love and commitment that teachers and staff show for all the students. It is a true talent to be able to touch the minds and spirits of children, and I always feel welcome when I walk in the school. Blythe has become a part of our family."

"I am so grateful and extremely honored to be the proud parent of two wonderful children at Blythe. The caring and nurturing environment provided by the faculty and staff enables Blyth’s Vision and Mission to become reality. The options for extracurricular activities are countless and the parental volunteer opportunities are welcomed and encouraged. Quite simply, my children love waking up and going to school each day and that positive impact will remain with them for many years to come. Thank you for being part of our extended family."

"Throughout her years at Blythe, Sydney has been challenged by the Blythe Team and by her fellow scholars to excel! While she has learned so much and regularly earned A/B Honor Roll, she has also thrived socially and her self-confidence has grown so much thanks to the nurturing culture at Blythe. Sydney will miss Blythe big time but she knows her experience has prepared her for success in Middle School and she is excited to begin that journey. Thanks to all you guys for another great year!"
