Welcome to Rama Road Elementary

Rama Road Elementary School is located in Southeast Charlotte. Nestled in a suburban neighborhood setting is the quintessential "walk to school" school. We host approximately 550 students in grades PreK through 5th grade each year. Our motto is "Rama Proud and College Bound - Watch Us Shine!"  This mantra encompasses our project-based learning and global efforts while building on the work students are doing around STEM every day in student-centered classrooms and learning labs. We have a lot of options and choices for families right here in their neighborhood school. Families needn't look elsewhere for a high-quality and engaging education for their students.

Benefits of attending Rama Road Elementary that no other school can touch:

POWERFUL LOCATION - No long bus rides or late drop offs for our scholars! We are an early school, starting at 7:45 and dismissing at 2:45. In some cases, students can even walk to school or ride their bikes.

POWERFUL CULTURE FOR LEARNING - A positive and engaging learning environment for every student. We are a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) school. At Rama Road, students are Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn everyday. Did you know that fewer than 4% of our students received a behavior referral last year? At Rama Road, everyone is welcome and we begin with kindness in everything we do.

POWERFUL INSTRUCTION - The best teaching staff in CMS. Over 1/3 of our staff are National Board Certified Teachers! While we know proficiency is important, our staff approaches every student with a growth mindset, differentiating based on each student's need for rigorous academic enrichment or foundational skill practice.

POWERFUL EXPERIENCES - We offer TWO full-time labs that focus on STEM and project-based learning for students to experience each week during Special Area classes - a Science Lab and Creative Commons - both taught by certified and highly qualified teachers. Our students also have access to two learning gardens to experience hands-on instruction.

POWERFUL LEARNING - Classroom instruction at Rama Road is based on the NC State Standards and met with a variety of teaching strategies to implement the highest quality instruction. We use the prescribed EL Curriculum model at RRES for literacy instruction. For math instruction, every grade level receives a 90-minute math block using the Envision Math Curriculum built into the master schedule so that every child has the opportunity to work in small groups to practice new math skills and problem solving. Personalized learning at its best! With this model, 92% of our students demonstrated growth reaching at or beyond grade level last year. Rama Road was recognized as a top school for Exceeding High Growth on End of Grade assessments for the 2021-22 school year.

POWERFUL PARTNERSHIPS - Rama Road Elementary was one of the first elementary schools in North America to partner exclusively with Discovery Education to build project based learning into the core curriculum. We are also very fortunate to have two local faith communities highly invested in our school: Sardis Presbyterian and Christ Episcopal Church. These community partners provide thousands of volunteer hours, tutors, academic enrichment opportunities, teacher support, classroom libraries, school supplies, uniforms and much more.

POWERFUL PEOPLE - With over 30 nations represented at Rama Road, diversity is our number one strength. All grade levels are connected to another class in another country. Each year is spent communicating with these classes and sharing new learning about global events and topics that build global relationships for our students. In May, our school community celebrates this diversity with an ever-growing International Day celebration as a grand finale to the school year.

POWERFUL PARENT INVOLVEMENT - RRES hosts an Open School Weeks for parents to drop into classrooms and observe instruction and student engagement. It is our belief that when parents are well educated in what their children are experiencing at school every day, their children are more likely to succeed. Parents and families have built-in opportunities to get involved daily in classrooms as well as participating in multiple academic events such as Science & Math Night in January and Art & Writing Night in March.

POWERFUL PRACTICE - All students participate in House Assemblies once per month. What is the House model? Think Harry Potter. We have four Houses at Rama Road named for famous innovators. Every child at Rama Road belongs to one of these Houses - Tharpe (yellow), Latimer (red), Ride (green) and Galileo (navy). Students work together in their Houses to focus on good character, attendance, attitude and collaboration. House earn points for their efforts and "compete" for the House Cup trophy awarded to the House with the most points at the end of the year. The House Cup Champion for 2022-23 is the Latimer (Red) House. We are proud of our House concept at Rama Road because students can build a sense of belonging to a smaller group of people within the school that they can lean to for support, friendship and relationships with trusted adults.

POWERFUL PATHWAYS - At Rama Road, we are proud to prepare young learners for the rigorous sequence of learning found within the East Mecklenburg High School feeder pattern. As our students progress, they transition to McClintock Middle School before determining the path of either the International Baccalaureate Program or the Academy of Engineering at EMHS.

POWERFUL STUDENT LEADERSHIP - We are intentional with the planning of many extra-curricular groups for our students to engage with in order to support the development of the whole child and provide leadership learning opportunities for all of our students. These include, but are not limited to: a STEM Club in partnership with Digi-Bridge, Soccer FC Club, Chess Club, Battle of the Books team, a 70 member Girl Scout troop, Girls on the Run, and Student Council.

If your child is not yet enrolled at Rama Road, we invite you to stop by and take a tour. You will not be disappointed. We will see you soon!
