Ms. Sharon A. Bracey

Dear Hawk Families,

I am truly proud to be called to serve as principal at Hawthorne Academy High School. As a full magnet with emphasis on CTE and leadership-based learning opportunities for students, our two academies -Military, Global Leadership and Public Safety Academy and Health Sciences Academy- provide rigorous 21st century learning experiences for our students. In my short time here, I have been impressed by the diverse groups of community partners who support Hawthorne. I look forward to continuing and expanding these community connections to provide even more opportunities for our students. Hawthorne students come to us with powerful stories of overcoming challenges and reaching success. The richness of diversity of backgrounds and talents on our campus allows our students to experience learning in a uniquely global environment each day.

Prior to arriving at Hawthorne, I served as the principal at Garinger High School (2018-2022), an assistant principal at Garinger High School (2014-2018), an assistant principal at Mallard Creek High School (2013-2014) and an assistant principal at North Rowan High (2011-2013). I hold a bachelor’s degree in sociology/social studies education from Winthrop University, Rock Hill, S.C., and a master’s degree in school administration from Queens University, Charlotte, NC. I am a proud parent of a 2020 graduate of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, so I continue to lead from the lens of a school administrator and a parent.

As principal of Hawthorne, I am committed to seeing every student succeed. That means having every student prepared for the next step on their personal educational journey. Our school is committed to creating the conditions for all students to thrive and succeed within our doors and beyond. In order to continue our growth, we need the continued support of parents and community members. I value these connections and invite parent and community stakeholders to participate in our school community as often as you can. To do so, simply register as a CMS volunteer and a member of our team will connect with you when there are opportunities for you to serve.

In closing, I am super proud to be your principal and look forward to working with you and your students. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time if you have concerns: sharona.bracey@cms.k12.nc.us or (980) 343-6011.

Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
