West Charlotte High School was established in 1938 on the current campus of Northwest School of the Arts and is one of Charlotte-Mecklenburg's oldest public schools. It has a rich history of producing widely noted public officials, athletes, and business leaders and is affectionately known as, "DubC".

West Charlotte High School offers diverse curriculum opportunities.  In addition to the standard course offerings, it provides nine (9) Advanced Placement (AP) courses in the areas of English, Calculus, Statistics, U.S. History, U.S. Government and Law, Human Geography, and Art. Additional offerings occur for international competition in the  International Baccalaureate Program. This competition provides the opportunity for highly motivated, college-bound scholars to engage in an academically rigorous and well-rounded educational program, which promotes and encourages academic competitiveness, as well as, an appreciation of and sensitivity to different cultures, attitudes, and values.  Therefore, in April 2005, West Charlotte High School was authorized as an International Baccalaureate World School.  It has successfully offered courses under the IBO program to those scholars who seek the academic rigor and cultural awareness of the international program.

Although academics reign supreme in the hallowed halls of West Charlotte High School, we offer many opportunities for our scholars to diversify their high school experiences.  These opportunities include participation in such athletic programs as football, volleyball, tennis, golf, cross country, soccer, basketball, swimming, cheerleading team, dancing team, wrestling, indoor track, softball, baseball, and outdoor track. Also, there are a myriad of clubs offered to our schools.  Among our offerings are the National Honor Society, Key Club, Beta Club, National Technical Honor Society, Order of the Lions, IB Council, FBLA, SAVE, HOSA, Chess, Band, Chorus, Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, Yearbook, NAACP, Lions for Christ, and the International Club.

The historical documentary film below was produced in 1996. The film demonstrates the incredible history of West Charlotte High School and its impact on Charlotte and the community at large. 

Spanning more than 50 years, the stories of former teachers and students tell how our historic school in the heart of an African American neighborhood, became nationally known as the city's example of successful integration. Enjoy the film.
