PSE: A Snapshot of Our Program

Providence Spring Elementary School is a state-of-the-art facility housing 42 classrooms,  All of our kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms, our art room, music room, resource room, media center and computer lab are outfitted with either SMART Boards or Promethean Activ Panels. Our K-2 classrooms are 1:1 with iPads for student use and our 3-5 classrooms are 1:1 with Chromebooks.

Providence Spring employs the Paideia principles of teaching and learning. Paideia is not only a philosophy, it is also the use of powerful instructional strategies to teach challenging and rigorous content. Providence Spring has been named a Nationally Accredited Paideia School by the National Paideia Center and has seven faculty members that have been named to the National Faculty.

Classrooms for lower grades, a computer lab with advanced capabilities, and spaces for a variety of music and performing arts programs highlight the ground floor of the school. The upper level of the school houses our upper grade classrooms, areas for tutoring and Talent Development, and spaces for project design and small group instruction. Over time, a beautiful Outdoor Classroom has been established, which allows for experiential learning in the outdoors. The school is in the heart of growing southeast Charlotte on 23 acres off Providence Church Lane. The spaciousness of the campus, the quiet of the site, and the school's close proximity to the historic Providence Presbyterian Church complex blends the best of old and new in a beautiful school setting.

Boys and girls are provided with a number of opportunities to pursue personal interests and develop their leadership skills. These activities include participation in Safety Patrol, Math Olympiad, Girls on the Run, Running Club, Chess Club, Mystery Class, Quiz Bowl, and Science Olympiad. Students also produce and present WeROCK, a weekly in-house television news program. Academic excellence is recognized in student Honor Roll celebrations.

Parents sponsor Character Education and Art Appreciation classes, which provide students with an understanding of the important role both character education and art play in daily life.

Goal setting and monitoring one's own academic performance is stressed in the upper grades. In grades 3 - 5 each student is responsible for preparing and presenting a portfolio of individual work following the teacher's criteria. Student-led conferencing allows parents to understand their child's progress in academic studies.

Providence Spring Elementary is committed to developing the scholars of today and the leaders of tomorrow.
