Research supports the premise that good school attendance is imperative for strong achievement. When the number of days a child is present increases, his/her school performance is likely to improve. Scholars are expected to be in school except in the event of an emergency or for reasons explained in the codes below.
Illness or injury
Death in the immediate family
CMS approved religious holiday
Approved education leave (form 5123.21 must be completed & approval obtained from the principal)
Court or administrative proceedings
All absences are unexcused until a note is provided. Unexcused absences include: inclement weather, car trouble, missing the bus, oversleeping, no written excuse, class cutting and work.
REPORTING AN ABSENCE
FYI - You do not need to call into school on the morning of an absence.
Please report absences by clicking on the "Absence" button on the school's website. This will allow you to report the reason for an absence and upload paperwork. Any notes explaining or excusing the absence can be uploaded using this form. Scholars can also bring a note signed by the parent/guardian indicating the reason for their absence upon their return to school. This note should be turned in to the main office.
You may also email an absence. Email our attendance secretary, Marissa Logan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Scholars who are absent from school are responsible for all work and information missed in each class. Student assignments can be found by visiting each class's Canvas page.
Scholars are tardy if they arrive after 9:15 AM. Late buses are the exception. Scholars must have a tardy slip after 9:15 a.m. to be admitted to class. When they come by the office, they will receive a tardy slip.
Scholars who arrive at school after 9:15 a.m. need to report to the office before reporting to the classroom. Our attendance secretary will record their arrival on a Sign In/Sign Out card and give the late scholar a tardy slip. Scholars will not be admitted to class without a tardy slip.
