Welcome

  • Dear Northeast Middle School families,

Northeast Middle School is a hidden treasure in the Mint Hill community. While Northeast has been at the end of Brickstone Drive since the early 1970s, a recent renovation has upgraded the facilities and created a beautiful school with bright and inviting classrooms and hallways. We have a highly qualified faculty. Forty percent of our teachers have advanced degrees and 83 percent are designated highly qualified in their subject areas.  In addition, several teachers are currently enrolled in a master’s degree program.  Sixty-five percent of our staff have three or more years of teaching experience.

Northeast offers a wide range of opportunities for our students.  In addition to general education, our school offers various standards and honors classes, traditional Spanish and Native Spanish Speakers courses, high school credit courses, band and orchestra, an SBS program, an extensive Exceptional Children's program, an Extensions Program, various arts courses including media arts and Project Lead the Way classes.  We also have a growing computer science magnet with new classes being offered each year for our students. We have an active PTSA and School Leadership Team.

We have opportunities for students to get involved after school with the game club, art club, Girls on the Run and the National Junior Honor Society.  We offer a variety of athletic teams, such as baseball, softball, basketball, cheerleading, football, soccer, track and field, and volleyball.  We offer extended student services through Right Moves for Youth, SPARCS, Family First and Junior Achievement, as well as a community partnership with New Beginnings. We are proud of the work our students do, and we take time to recognize them through quarterly Honor Card ceremonies and various incentive activities.  Our staff works diligently with our students to increase their mastery of the skills and concepts in their classes.  It is our goal to continue to grow our students in their content knowledge so that they can continue the positive trends we are seeing on their assessments throughout the year.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have been in education for 20 years. This is my first year as a principal, and I am extremely honored to lead such an amazing group of students and staff at Northeast. I am a proud graduate of West Virginia University, where I majored in elementary education K-8 with a specialization in middle-grades language arts.  I earned my master’s degree in educational leadership from Winthrop University. I believe that everything we do every day is about people, and it is extremely important that we treat others with kindness and respect.  Building positive relationships with students, staff, and the community is essential for our success as a school. When students know that we genuinely care, I believe there is no limit to what they can accomplish.

I look forward to working with you. Thank you for choosing Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and Northeast Middle School.
    Leisa Christian, principal
