Also, please note that students must attend school until at least 12:45pm to be counted as present for the school day. In addition, students may not be signed out after 3:30 to help ensure a safe dismissal process for all students.
On page 13 of the CMS Parent-Student Handbook, you can find a list of absences that are excused and those that are unexcused. Please keep in mind that according to Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board Policy and the NC Compulsory Attendance Law (N.C.G.S § 115C‑378), parents and guardians are responsible for seeing that their children attend school each day that school is in session.
North Carolina law requires that all children enrolled in school must attend regularly. Parents are legally responsible for the school attendance of their children. Missing school may indeed put a child "at risk" of not mastering grade level competencies. Children who have exceeded 10 days of unexcused absences are in violation of the law and, therefore, the school can take necessary legal action to ensure that all students attend school. Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools requires that parents be sent a letter from the school after 3 unexcused absences, another letter after 6 unexcused absences, and a certified letter if the number of unexcused absences exceeds 10.
