Dear Whitewater Academy families,

Welcome to Whitewater Academy. We serve students in pre-kindergarten through grade five. Our school supports the belief that all students can learn by providing a wide range of differentiated learning experiences to help develop the whole child. Whitewater makes social/emotional learning a priority and we are also a one-to-one school for technology. Intentional reading instruction integrated throughout all content areas is the foundation of our school’s vision.

At our school, we are building each year on a tradition of excellence and academic success, setting higher goals for ourselves and our students. In addition to our academic programs, we also proudly host coed basketball, soccer and flag-football teams, as well as a cheerleading squad and Girls on the Run.

Students, staff, families and community members are actively involved in school activities. We invite you to participate in our school community as often as you can. Please remember to register as a CMS volunteer. All volunteers must register each year and select Whitewater as the site. Please also remember to bring your ID to sign in upon entering the school as we are working diligently to keep our school safe.

Finally, I would like to tell you a little bit about me. I attended Penn State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. I then joined Teach For America to begin my teaching career. I have been principal of Whitewater Academy for five years. Before coming here, I was a resident principal at Sedgefield Elementary. I also worked as a dean of instruction and English teacher at KIPP Charlotte for five years, and taught in Newark, NJ, for seven years. I joined five other colleagues in opening Team Academy Charter School in 2002, which has now expanded to a network of schools.
