    Dear CMVS Families,

It is with excitement that I serve as your principal at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual School. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual School is THE place to be!  I am honored to be charged with ensuring that we deliver on our commitment to providing a flexible, personalized learning experience that transcends traditional education models and prepares students for 21st Century citizenship.  Not only are we committed to this, but we will work to provide this learning at the highest level available.  Our dedicated and collaborative staff works intensely to provide students with a personalized learning experience that is highly engaging.  This experience prepares students for a fulfilling and successful post-secondary life as students pursue rigorous coursework and are challenged to grow to their fullest potential.

My three personal core values of high expectations, equity, and focus will be central to my leadership and decision-making at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual School.  A little more about myself...I spent the last seven years as a high school administrator, serving as both a high school assistant principal (South Meck HS) and principal (George Washington HS in Cedar Rapids, IA). Prior to that, I taught high school social studies for twelve and a half years (nine at Myers Park HS) and enjoyed coaching track and field, indoor track, and cross country.  Thirteen of my best years have been in CMS and this doesn't include the amazing experiences I had as a CMS student (Myers Park Class of 1993).  I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and am a die-hard Tarheel fan.  When I'm not cheering on UNC, you will find me avidly supporting the Carolina Panthers.  After several years in the classroom, I was blessed with the opportunity to pursue my Master of School Administration degree at Queens University of Charlotte.

We will continue to foster the caring, family atmosphere that exists at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual High School while ensuring that every student learns at a high level and is well-prepared for post-secondary life.  I’m committed to supporting each and every student in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual School family.  We will help our learners to enhance each of the following characteristics which will help them become college and career ready:

    • Self-motivation
    • Self-direction
    • Independence
    • Organization
    • A love of learning
    • Good time management
    • Strong academic records

By providing flexibility and personalized learning in a caring environment where there is intentionality in positive relationships, the sky's the limit for our learners!  I hope to know each of you personally and want you to know that I will make myself available at any time that you have a question or need assistance.

It is my hope that, if not already, you will get involved to continue helping make Charlotte-Mecklenburg Virtual School provide the best learning options for students anywhere!  Also, I open my door to you for ideas on new opportunities that we can create together.

Thank you for your time and commitment to our school family!

    Warm Regards,

    John Cline
