Superintendent's Message - March 2024
Greetings, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Families!
CMS students and staff are doing amazing work in our classrooms and beyond the school walls.
Recently, students from East Mecklenburg High School were featured in myFutureNC’s educational attainment campaign. The students did a phenomenal job. I am so proud of them, and I know you will be, too, when you watch the video.
Mallard Creek High School’s Cameron Stinson became the first wrestler in North Carolina history to win 200 matches without a single loss. His win in the state finals capped off his high school career with a record of 205 wins and 0 losses. Cameron is a four-time state wrestling champion.
We are celebrating the 69 educators who earned their National Board Certification for the first time and the 142 educators who successfully renewed their Certification! North Carolina leads the nation with more than 24,000 educators achieving National Board Certification to date.
We also are congratulating two CMS teachers who were recognized for their excellence:
- Kimberly Courtlandt, a teacher at Merancas Middle College High School, who was recognized as the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. The Chamber honors three local educators from public, private and charter schools who teach in the communities in their region.
- Congratulations to Michael Hayes, a multi-lingual learner teacher at Hidden Valley Elementary School, who was named the Outstanding Clinical Educator for Fall 2023 by the Cato College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. This award recognizes a teacher who serves as a clinical educator to a full-time student teaching candidate.
You still have one more opportunity to participate in our Community Engagement Sessions focused on the district’s budget. We will host a virtual session on March 27 at 6 p.m. The link to join the virtual session will be available on the district website.
The Board of Education will meet for its regularly scheduled meetings on March 12 and March 26. Other dates to note on your calendar are:
- March 13 – Early Release Day for Students
- March 28 – End of 3rd Quarter
- March 29 – Teacher Workday
Thank you for your continued support of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. I am grateful for your interest and engagement.
Sincerely,
Crystal L. Hill, Ed.D.
