About Myers Park Elementary School

Our school was originally built in 1928. Our new addition and renovation was completed in September, 2003. We are a Traditional Magnet school.

The Leadership/Traditional program is committed to developing young citizens that possess leadership skills that are nurtured within. Leadership skills are also demonstrated openly in service and responsibility to self, family, community, and country.

Using the Leader in Me model, the program builds cooperative relationships and nurtures responsibility, kindness and good judgment as the basis for creating a successful community of learners. The program fosters a climate of principle-centered and personal leadership. At Myers Park Traditional, we are developing the whole child – socially, emotionally, academically and ethically. The principles of Dr. Stephen R. Covey, internationally renowned consultant and author of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and First Things First is embedded in the school’s culture and guides students, faculty and staff in building the leadership model.

Myers Park Traditional was officially named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School in March 2021. This is the highest honor awarded to Leader in Me schools who exemplify the highest level of implementation and serve as a model school. MPTS was the first school in the district to receive this honor.
