Mrs. Jessica Rivas

Dear David Cox Community,

I am incredibly honored and delighted to extend my warmest welcome to every one of you as the new Principal of David Cox. It is with great enthusiasm and anticipation that I join this exceptional educational community.

As your Principal, my foremost priority is to ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential. I firmly believe that education is a transformative force, empowering young minds to become critical thinkers, compassionate individuals, and leaders of tomorrow. My dedication to student success will be unwavering, as I strive to foster a culture of academic excellence, creativity, and a love for lifelong learning.

I am committed to maintaining open lines of communication and collaboration with all stakeholders. Together, we will create a strong partnership between school and home, where parents are valued as essential partners in their child's education. I encourage you to actively engage in your child's educational journey and take advantage of the various opportunities we will provide to foster strong parent-school relationships.

A little about me: I was born and raised in Miami, FL. My husband Fernando and I moved to Charlotte 20 years ago for his work and we used to live in the David Cox community for many years.  Our daughter went to school at David Cox for elementary!  We are the proud parents of three children; Trinity, 22, Tristen, 19, and Teagen, 16. We also have two fur babies, Chewie and Ginger.

I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from UNC Charlotte in Child and Family Development, a Master's in School Administration from Queen's University, and an Ed.S (Education Specialist) degree from Appalachian State University.  I'm currently working on my Doctorate Degree in Education Administration.

I have been in education for over 10 years and started my teaching career in CMS as a second-grade teacher in a dual-language school. I also taught 3rd and 6th grade before becoming a high school Assistant Principal.  Most recently, I have been an elementary school principal in another CMS school and before that, I was a principal at an elementary school in a neighboring district for 3 years.

I love what I do and am passionate about students, teaching, and learning. I am honored to serve as your Principal and look forward to finishing the year strong. Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Jessica Rivas
