    Teaching & Learning 2023-2024

  • ELA

The 7th grade ELA team is working on Module 2 Unit 1. In this module we are exploring infectious diseases and the root causes of them. We are reading the novel "Patient Zero".

**Please encourage your scholars to read for 30–40 minutes on a nightly basis.**

    Math

Standard Math 7: We are currently in Unit 4 Proportional Relationships and Percentages. In this unit, students use ratios, scale factors, unit rates (also called constants of proportionality), and proportional relationships to solve multistep, real-world problems that involve fractions and percentages. Honors

Math 7: We are currently in Unit 3 Dilations, Similarity, and Slope. In this unit, students learn to understand and use the term “dilation,” and to recognize that a dilation is determined by a point called the “center” and a number called the “scale factor.” They learn that under dilation, the image of a circle is a circle and the image of a line is a line parallel to the original. They draw images of figures under dilations on and off the coordinate plane. They use the terms “corresponding sides” and “corresponding angles” to describe correspondences between a figure and its dilated image, and recognize that angle measures are preserved, but lengths are multiplied by the scale factor.

    SCIENCE

Scholars have started studying cells & the human body as our Unit 2 focus. We began our studies with the microscope and how it helps uncover the once "invisible world" of cells. Scholars will create an informational poster about a living organism of their choice as we continue to tackle single-celled organisms.

    SOCIAL STUDIES

During the month students will learn about the Industrial Revolution. They will understand how huge changes in manufacturing methods affected the way people worked and lived. Students will also become familiarized with the specific inventions and inventors of the era. Next they’ll learn about Imperialism in Africa and the connections it has with colonization. In the late 1800’s Europeans settled in Africa and became involved in African politics and economics. When they arrived in Africa they hoped to get rich through trade. Their goal was to access the natural raw resources and impose their own ideas on the local people by dominating their government, trade and culture.
