Club: Art

Description: Art Club is for students who love art and want to work on large scale projects throughout the year. It provides a wonderful and creative outlet for students.
Eligibility requirements: 3rd, 4th, 5th grade

Description: Battle of the Books is a nation-wide reading incentive program. Students read common books and meet to share their knowledge of the books. Students will read 6 assigned books and then compete in a question and answer style competition against other CMS schools.

Description:The club will meet to learn and develop chess playing skills and strategies. Charlotte Scholastic Chess Association Leader Mr. Singleton will lead the club practices and participate in tournaments with other CMS schools.
Eligibility requirements: 2nd-5th grade
Fee: $20 returning members (no shirt) $35 new members (with shirt)

Every Tuesday 3:15-4:30 Starting November 1st.
Description: Students will learn basics of theater, retell/act out stories, public speaking, create props/costumes, culminating in a mini-performance of “We are the Dream”.
Eligibility requirements: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade

Club: Fit To Win

Meeting dates/times: Tuesday 3:15-4:15 Starting November 3rd.
Description: Fit To Win is our Fitness here at Parkside. This club is for girls and boys in grades 4 & 5. Our students will create fitness videos that will be used for Warm Up instruction and activity during Physical Education class for grades K-5. Fit To Win is a club for students who would like to exercise more and encourage others to do the same.
Club Goals:
1. To develop skill, interest, and the appreciation for the need of life-long movement, activity, and recreation
2. To be able to take the knowledge that is learned regarding fitness and use it to help others
3. To allow members to give feedback and share ideas to enhance the club
4. To provide a safe place where students are accepted no matter what their limitations might be

Obstacle Course/5K Race Optional for Participants
Club: Garden Club

Meeting dates/times: Every Tuesday 3:15-4:30 Starting March 7th.
Description: Providing students the opportunity to learn about gardening using raised beds and pots. They will learn about different soil types needed, planting, spacing, how to provide structures for plants, watering, fertilizing, harvesting, and how to control weeds and bugs. Students will also learn how to propagate plants from a parent plant, as well as transplant seeds from indoors to outdoors.

Club: Girls on the Run

Description: Girls on the Run is a club designed to help our girls learn essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness. The program culminates with girls positively impacting their communities through a service project and being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K event.
Eligibility requirements: 3rd-5th grade girls
Fee: Income based fee. Scholarships available. Price includes race fee and T-shirt.

Description: Let Me Run is a nonprofit wellness program that inspires boys to be themselves, be active, and belong. With a comprehensive curriculum that applies the power of running, the program encourages boys to develop their psychological, emotional and social health, in addition to their physical health.
Eligibility requirements: 4th and 5th grade boys with 2 teacher referrals

Club: Music Club

Every Friday 7:30-8:10 Starting November 4th
Description: Music club will be for grades 3-5. This club will meet and prepare music for the winter and spring programs. Students in this club will sing and play instruments from a variety of cultures and time periods

Club: National Elementary Honor Society (WASOMI Tribe)

Description: NEHS promotes a positive school climate and provides opportunities to motivate all students to reach their greatest potential in school and in life. Opportunities to strengthen our school’s reputation in the community as outstanding ambassadors for your school and undertake meaningful community service projects.**Fee for dues for members

Description: Provides the opportunity for students to learn the behind the scenes work of the morning news as well as serve as weather reporter, anchor, etc. Students get to work as a team to share updates and announcements with the Parkside staff and students.

Club: Quadratic Quest

Description: Students compete in 4 different math “quests” against other CMS schools.
Individual problem solver problems, team problem solver problems, STEAM team activity, and map masters team.
Eligibility requirements: 2nd and 3rd graders by invitation only

Description: Students have an opportunity to develop leadership by organizing and carrying out school activities and service projects. In addition to planning events that contribute to school spirit and community welfare, the student council is the voice of the student body.
