Women’s History Month: Principal Jigna Patel, Ballantyne Elementary School
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is celebrating Women’s History Month, which is held in March to encourage the study, observance and celebration of the vital role of women in American history. This week, we are highlighting Jigna Patel, the new principal at Ballantyne Elementary, where Asian families are connecting with her through their cultural backgrounds.
Patel is featured in a recent WFAE webstory that said the numbers of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are growing in Charlotte’s south suburbs. Asian students also outnumber Black, white or Latino students at Ballantyne Elementary. Read the story at https://rb.gy/mszlnk.
Patel recently moved to Ballantyne from Lake Wylie Elementary School, where last fall she was the CMS Southwest Learning Community Principal of the Year. She was at Lake Wylie Elementary for 13 years, six of those as principal, and has served Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools for 17 years.
