Additional Information for February 13, 2023
Greetings Families,
I hope your week got off to a great start today. I left out an important message about Valentine's Day from my Sunday weekly update. Please see below, and as always, please connect with me with questions or concerns. We appreciate your support.
Prioritizing teaching and learning in our school building is paramount at Whitewater Middle School. I know that the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday can be a special time for many, including our students. I want to set forth some expectations regarding deliveries and gift exchanges. The best plan of action is to have deliveries made to your home and for students to exchange gifts such as flowers, stuffed animals, etc. outside of school. In the event that items are delivered to the school, all deliveries will be held in the front office until the end of the school day, and students will need to pick them up there. Students will not be allowed to have flower arrangements, stuffed animals, and other gifts in classrooms with them throughout the day because they will cause a distraction in the learning environment. Items that cause a distraction will be confiscated.
Thank you and have a wonderful evening! -

Many of our parents and students are likely aware that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has installed safety scanners at each of our CMS Middle Schools to promote a safer school environment. Beginning this week our staff will begin implementing the safety scanner process. All students and visitors will be required to pass through the safety scanners prior to entering the building. Students will be shown a video in class which explains to them how best to prepare for the scanning process. Parents please go through your child’s backpack this evening to ensure that all items in the backpack are appropriate for school. The scanners may alert when a student passes through with a normal everyday item. In this case, students will quickly be screened by an administrator and will then be sent to class. I thank you in advance for your cooperation to make our school even safer. Please feel free to contact me by email or phone if you have any questions about the scanning process.
