Parents of Parentally Placed Private School Students, grades K-12, can request an evaluation if they suspect their student may have an educational disability. They can contact either the school to which their student would be assigned based on their address if enrolled in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) or they can contact the Exceptional Children (EC) Office. A student may request an evaluation at age 18, the age of majority in the State of North Carolina, because the ability to make educational decisions and procedural safeguards transfers to the student at that time (unless a guardian has been appointed to represent the student).
