CMS Police Department

  • The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Police Department (CMSPD) is a fully authorized state police agency, providing police and security services to all Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Campuses and property to include over 141,000 students and 18,500 district staff members.  We are one of only two school systems in North Carolina to have our own police department, the other being Moore County.

    CMSPD is dedicated to protecting students, staff and visitors.  CMSPD provides Law Enforcement and Security Services to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education, which would include all public school property owned or leased by the Board of Education.  CMSPD consists of over 200 team members consisting of Police Officers, Detectives, a Narcotics K-9, 168 Security Associates and Supervisory positions, Communications staff, Alarm Technicians and a Safe School Coordinator.  Our Officers serve as School Resource Officers for all schools. CMSPD contracts with our local Police Departments (CMPD, Huntersville, Cornelius, Matthews and Davidson) to provide SROs for all schools.  CMSPD is responsible for planning and execution of School Safety Plans (Crisis/Emergency/Lockdown procedures) and continuous Active Survival training for all CMS school staff and employees.
