    This page provides high-level fast facts about CMS and more detailed data on student enrollment and school performance. These include resources from CMS and links to data provided by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI). End of Year Data Release

    CMS provides an update to the community each year when the official state data are released. The media briefing presentation from Sept. 6, 2023,  includes results from the 2022-23 school year, including state assessments, graduation rate, English learner progress, academic growth, and school performance grades.

CMS Performance Dashboard

    The CMS Performance Dashboard is an interactive dashboard for viewing data at the district and school levels and for different student groups. It includes data on graduation rates, proficiency on state tests, participation in college-level courses, chronic absenteeism, and in-school and out-of-school suspensions.

    The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction provides data in many different places on the state website. This page provides a summary of where to find data on state assessments, enrollment, student discipline, and graduation. It also has links to information on student data privacy, state assessments, and other resources.

CMS Student Membership Data

    Student membership counts are the official student enrollment data that school districts report on a monthly basis to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI). Membership counts are available as a snapshot from the last day of the reporting month and as an average across the month, which is typically set at 20 school days. Data are provided by month for the current school year and annually for the past ten school years.

    The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction provides annual summaries at the district and school level. The data include school performance grades, academic growth, student characteristics, performance on state assessments, teacher qualifications, and school environment.

    The Data Request Form is intended for CMS staff, external researchers who have already received approval through the CMS research application process, and community partner organizations with agreements in place for receiving CMS data. Please use the Public Records Request process instead if you are requesting existing records for other purposes.

    The public records of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public School System are governed by the state of North Carolina's Public Records Act, General Statute 132. A “public record” means any record created or received by the Board or its employees. An information request is exclusively for the purpose of obtaining answers to questions. A public agency is not required to respond to records requests by creating or compiling a record that does not exist.
