Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce names its Educator of the Year for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools
Kimberly Courtlandt, teacher at Merancas Middle College High School, was recognized as the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools at a luncheon earlier this month.
The Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce represents the Lake Norman region, which includes North Mecklenburg, Lincoln and Iredell counties and the towns of Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville and Mooresville. The Educator of the Year recognizes three local educators from public, private and charter schools who teach in these communities.
“Being recognized as the Educator of the Year reaffirms my commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive learning environment for my students,” said Courtlandt. “It serves as a reminder of the impact educators can have on shaping the future generation.”
Courtlandt began working with the district 11 years ago, which she considers “an incredible journey of growth and learning.” Under the leadership of then-Principal Jametta Martin-Tanner, Courtlandt worked her first four years at Ridge Road Middle. When Martin-Tanner moved to open Merancas Middle College High, Courtlandt went with her.
“Mrs. Courtlandt is a perpetual learner, always seeking new ways to enhance her skills and knowledge for the benefit of her students,” said Martin-Tanner. “She maintains an open line of communication with her students — taking their concerns and feedback seriously — creating an environment where each student’s voice is acknowledged and respected.”
Courtlandt said she is humbled to receive recognition for a career she’s passionate about.
“I am truly grateful for this recognition and look forward to continuing my journey in education, making a positive difference in the lives of my students,” she said.
