Immigration and Customs Enforcement Information

  • The mission of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is to create an innovative, inclusive, student-centered environment that supports the development of independent learners. We understand recent federal orders may create uncertainty for some families, and we want to reassure you that our schools remain safe and welcoming spaces for all children.

All children can attend public school, regardless of citizenship status. Our district has always followed federal and state laws and will continue to do so. School leaders know the procedures law enforcement must follow on campus, and will consult with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools legal department to ensure compliance with applicable laws.

Additionally, our district does not ask about or record any family's immigration status. We will continue to honor all laws protecting the privacy of student records as outlined in board policies.

CMS remains dedicated to maintaining safe, welcoming environments where every child can learn and succeed. If your child has concerns or needs support during this time, please contact your school's student services department.
