The Issue: Over the past year, inflation has significantly impacted North Carolina, with a median PCE inflation rate of approximately 3.8%. Despite this, the General Assembly did not adjust the education budget during the recent short session. As a result, most teachers will experience a reduction in real pay, as their 3.0% raise fails to keep pace with inflation.
The Impact: Teachers—who tirelessly support around 1.4 million students—should not bear the financial burden of politics. In 2023, approximately 11.5% of North Carolina’s teachers left the profession, totaling 10,373 out of 90,638 teachers. This exodus highlights the urgent need for better support and compensation.
Our Call to Action: We urge the North Carolina General Assembly to pass a revised education budget that includes at least a 5.0% pay increase for both certified and non-certified staff during the session beginning September 9, 2024. Sign our petition today to show your support for North Carolina teachers!
Why It Matters:
Teachers Deserve Better: They are essential to our students’ success and should be compensated fairly.
Staff Well-Being: Adequate pay is vital for retaining dedicated staff and addressing the alarming turnover rate.
Students’ Future: Investing in our educators directly benefits the students and families they serve.
Join us in advocating for fair compensation for our teachers and staff. Together, we can ensure that our teachers and students get what they deserve!
