Legislative Affairs
-
The Board of Education’s Legislative Affairs are managed by the Intergovernmental Relationships Committee (IRC). The IRC monitors the actions of federal, state, county, and municipal governments that may impact CMS. It helps develop and track the Board’s legislative agenda, provides regular updates, and recommends responses to proposed government actions. The committee also assists the Board in giving timely direction to the General Counsel when immediate action is needed. Click here to learn more about the IRC and its members.
The goal of the IRC is to build strong connections with our local, state, and federal government partners to advocate for our students. On Friday, May 2, we welcomed members of the NC General Assembly to our Legislative Breakfast. Click here to view the presentation.
Additionally, on Wednesday, May 21, Board Members Sneed, Rankin, Nunn, Byers-Bailey, and Cline traveled to the North Carolina General Assembly. Throughout the day, the group engaged with nearly two dozen legislators—some through formal meetings, others through informal conversations. These interactions provided valuable opportunities to share district priorities and advocate directly on key issues.
