AVID in CMS

  • Elementary, middle, and high schools across the district utilize the AVID College Readiness System to prepare all students for success beyond their classrooms. AVID elementary schools provide a strong foundation for all students in their first years of school, ensuring that all students develop the academic habits they need to be successful, learning about organization, study skills, communication, and self-advocacy.

The power of AVID secondary is the ability to impact students in the AVID Elective class and all students throughout the campus. In addition, AVID Secondary can have an effect on the entire school by providing classroom activities, teaching practices, and academic behaviors that can be incorporated into any classroom to improve engagement and success for all students.

    Preparation for College and Beyond

The mission of AVID is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society. In CMS, AVID impacts students schoolwide by providing all staff with the tools to intentionally teach students skills in writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.

The AVID College Readiness System (ACRS) accelerates learning, uses research-based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional learning, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.

In the class of 2019, 89% of CMS AVID graduates took at least one advanced course in high school.
